Affairs Are Bad for the Heart

It's About Improving Your Love Life!!!
Use It or Lose It!
Even your heart tells you so. In general, sex puts the same amount of pressure on the heart as a brisk 20 minute walk, with an orgasm putting the same strain on the heart as walking up a flight of stairs.
More Reasons to Have Sex as Often as You Can!
'Gentle sex' may prevent heart attacks (BBC, Tuesday, 28 November, 2000, 13:14 GMT)
Even mild to moderate levels of physical activity are likely to have some cardiovascular protective effect!
Professor Shah Ebrahim, Univeristy of Bristol says:
The research, based on a large number of men living in a South Wales town, also provides encouragement to those who can only manage mild or moderate levels of any sort of exercise.
The Caerphilly study, the results of which were presented at the World Stroke Congress in Melbourne, found that men having three or four orgasms a week actually halved the risk of having a major heart attack or stroke.
Previous research suggested that exercise had to involve a significant rise in heart rate over a sustained period to be of benefit.
It was thought that the exercise should at least leave the person out of breath, to be of use.
Regular exercise strengthens the heart muscle, which means it does not have to work so hard in normal situations.
MODERATE ACTIVITY
The University of Bristol researchers interviewed 2,400 men from the town, asking them how often they had sex.
They were then tracked 10 years later to see how many had suffered serious strokes and heart attacks.
Lead researcher Professor Shah Ebrahim said: "In the past we thought it had to be activity at least three times a week and lasting 20 minutes or longer, causing sweatiness and being out of breath.
"That's quite vigorous activity. Most men of course think it's sex, which most women think lasts only a few minutes and isn't nearly as sustained as that."
He said: "We're now moving to a situation where we would say that even mild to moderate levels of physical activity are likely to have some cardiovascular protective effect."
While doctors do not recommend strenuous exercise following a heart attack, mild to moderate exercise can be beneficial, and they have moved to reassure patients worried about making love for fear of triggering another attack.
THREE WEEK RECOVERY
Alison Shaw, a cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, said that, on average, sexual activity could resume only a few weeks after an attack, provided the patient was capable of walking a few hundred yards or climbing a flight of steps without getting out of breath or suffering chest pain.
She said: "The risk of suffering a heart attack during sex is very small."
In general, she recommended that people should take at least 30 minutes exercise five days a week, although this could be a brisk walk if necessary.
She said: "People are under the impression that it has to be strenuous exercise, but it doesn't."
The thousands of men taking part in the ongoing Caerphilly survey have, through their questionnaires, yielded vital clues to the relationship between diet and smoking and heart disease.
UNFAITHFUL STROKE VICTIMS
Two other pieces of research on strokes were presented at the World Stroke Congress, suggesting unusual risk factors for the condition.
Dr Izumi Toyoda, based in Tokyo, suggested that infidelity might leave men prone to the condition - 19 out of 42 people who had suffered strokes during sex were being unfaithful at the time.
And another paper found that the worst snorers also appeared to be at greater risk of strokes - a situation worsened by alcohol consumption.
AFFAIRS ARE BAD FOR THE HEART
(BBC News, Tuesday, 3 December, 2002, 18:05 GMT)
Cardiologist Graham Jackson of St. Thomas's Hospital in London, told a sexual health conference in Hamburg, Germany that the risk of extra-marital sex was increased even more when there was a significant difference in age between the partners, Reuters news agency reported.
HEART FAILURE
In general, sex puts the same amount of pressure on the heart as a brisk 20 minute walk, with an orgasm putting the same strain on the heart as walking up a flight of stairs.
He told the conference: "We found that 75% of the cases of sudden death during sexual activity involved people who were taking part in extra-marital sexual intercourse."
He added heart rates accelerate considerably during sexual activity, but said couples in long-term relationships "hardly faced any risk of heart failure".
But he added: "Only 1% of all heart attacks are triggered by sexual activity."
75% of the cases of sudden death during sexual activity involved ... extra-marital sexual intercourse!!
PENIS IS A COMPETITIVE BEAST
(BBC, Thursday, 7 August, 2003)
Scientists believe the shape of the penis may have evolved to help men remove the semen of love rivals during sex.
Tests led a team of US researchers, headed by Professor Gordon Gallup, to conclude that the penis acts as a "semen displacement device" and its shape has evolved in part to displace another man's semen.
The team from the State University of New York believe the thrust of the penis during sex may help to clear a woman's vagina of a previous lover's semen.
They tested their theory in experiments using latex phalluses, an artificial vagina and a mixture of starch and water.
The human penis may enable males to substitute their semen for the semen of their competitors.
Professor Gordon Gallup in the New Scientist magazine reports they found the coronal ridge of the penis, where the glans, or head, meets the shaft, could scoop out more than 90% of the cornstarch mixture with just one thrust.
A phallus with no coronal ridge only managed to remove 35%.
They found the depth of thrusting was also important. A three-quarter thrust was found to clear out less than 40% of the viscous mixture.
SEX SURVEY
They also say they have evidence, from surveys of students, to indicate that sex tends to be more energetic if the women is suspected of cheating, or if the couple has been apart - suggesting a sub-conscious desire on the part of the man to rid his partner of any trace of another's semen.
Lead researcher Professor Gordon Gallup told BBC News Online: "We theorize that as a consequence of competition for paternity, human males evolved uniquely configured penises that function to displace semen from the female vagina left by other males.
"Thus, the human penis may enable males to substitute their semen for the semen of their competitors.
"Not only did we obtain data derived from artificial genital models that were consistent with this hypothesis, but we also found that under conditions that raise the threat of female infidelity, college students reported changes in sexual behavior that would serve to purge the vagina of foreign semen prior to ejaculation."
FAR FETCHED THEORY
Mr Derek Machin, a urologist at University Hospital, Aintree, said the theory seemed "far fetched".
"The research might very well be accurate, but I'm not convinced that just because the penis does something like this it was necessarily designed to have that effect."
Dr Colm O'Mahony, chairman of the UK Association for Genito-Urinary Medicine, said the theory seemed flawed.
"If the man continues to thrust after ejaculation he would simply be scooping out his own semen.
"Also does the sexual position matter - I imagine gravity has some role here. Maybe those missionaries knew something about position after all?"
The research is published in the journal Evolution and Human Behaviour.
PENIS SIZE NOT LINKED TO FEET
(BBC, Wednesday, 2 October, 2002, 11:47 GMT 12:47 UK)
The ability to predict the size of a man's penis by observing his shoe size is a common misconception
It has long been suggested that various parts of a man's body - his nose, hands or feet - could indicate penis size.
But Dr Jyoti Shah and colleagues at UCL and St Mary's Hospital London say their findings dispel the theory around feet, at least.
MEASURING UP
They examined 104 men attending a London urology clinic. They included teenagers and pensioners and the average age was 54.
The researchers measured the men's penises when soft and gently stretched.
Writing in the British Journal of Urology International, they said: "All lengths were measured by two urologists and recorded to the nearest 0.5cm. The age and shoe size was documented."
While the true size of the penis can only be determined when erect, the researchers said that their method provided a good indication of length.
The researchers found that the average penis was 13cm when soft and gently stretched. This figure ranged from 6cm at the lower end of the scale to 18cm at the higher end.
The men had an average British shoe size of 9 or 43 in European measurements.
However, they found no correlation between shoe size and penis length.
The researchers said: "Many believe that the size of a man's penis can be estimated by assessing various other parts of his body, notoriously his shoe size."
But they added: "The ability to predict the size of a man's penis by observing his shoe size is a common misconception. The present study shows that there is no scientific support for the relationship."
